This was my nth trip to the zoo, this time was with my ex-polymates and one of their ex-sec sch mates. I went to the zoo several times during poly times for assignment and project research and once during NS days. It was a long day at the zoo. We were there from 10+am to 4+pm. HWahahhaz The weather was fine with a bit of drizzle but overall it was cooling throughout.
Not sure of any new highlights cos everything still looked the same for me. Except for the brighter, classier entrance with a new fountain. Took quite a number of fotos and experimented with my ex-classmate's SLR who just returned from Canada for summer holidays. Had quite a time trying to focus as his camera was heavy. We happened to meet a company which was organising its family day at the zoo. Tons of people along with noisy children, tourists who like to feed racoons as if they are pandas. *rolleyes*
Speaking of feeding the animals. I was suprised my day was not spoilt by 2 inconsiderate China (hey-ho behold !) tourists who were trying to feed a brood of racoons with julie's cheese crackers (i think,i was not observing). I even told the lady who was about to throw a chunk of crackers into the racoons' enclosure just to see them poised upnot to feed the animals. There was also this 11 yr old boy from Indonesia ? He was trying to intimidate the white tiger by yelling at it, indirectly into my ears too as I was besides him trying to focus my friend's SLR on the white tiger. Why not I push him into the enclosure so that he can whine and scream at the tigers ? Better still, we can see live tiger feeding habits with a live pig.
At the reptiles section, we saw some 2-3 yr old toddlers banging their fists at the glass covers. It will be better if the glasses broke and the constrictors or pythons to give those pesky brats a nice warm (not) hug which they will never forget. Like one of my friends had said before, there is a class difference between ang mohs and Asians. For example like in the baboons arena, the ang moh children were so well-behaved, they had interest in feeding them ( $1 per plate of fruits) and to see their feeding habits and everything. They were interested in the animals instead of having a sadistic instinct to scare them. No doubt they were excited too. They have parents educating and explaining to them.
The Chi-na(s) and peasants of other Asian countries (excluding Japan,Korea) were different. They could not distinguish a crocodile from a dinosaur. Though a croc is more of a living fossil. They allow their children to shout, irritate, use flashes at the animals. They are more captivated by the animals than telling their children more about the animals. Not surprised they know nothing in the 1st place.
One thing about the zoo is it can really stink real bad. I was almost suffocating from a gale of anmonia and organic gases from nearby defaecation. HAHA..Well not as bad when I was trying to take a foto of the white tiger when a breeze of spices and goats milk made my head spin for a millisecond. I guess some of those animals stink (to us humans) because they have thick fur. So I believe this is the same for some races of Asians. No, Chinese are not hairy.
Will you stop a peasant tourist from feeding crackers to a animal if you happen to see one doing so ? How many of us know we are not supposed to do that in the 1st place ?
